The Cyberpunk 2077 release was supposed to be in April 2020. Due to some problems, most likely related to the Covid-19 pandemic, CDPR decided to release the game in November 19th. Unfortunate news arose and the hit game was yet again delayed to December the 10th. The players eagerly waiting for the launch were dissapointed of course, but they were not the only ones affected. Because of this, Cyberpunk 2077 delays multiple games. Companies are now forced to decide if a postpone is in order for their games and expansions.
In this light of events, some developers lost, but also some companies won. Games such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Destiny 2: Beyond Light and World of Warcraft are in the spotlight during this times.
You can find a list of some games and DLC’s that got delayed due to the Cyberpunk late Release below.
Cyberpunk Delays Griding Gear Games – Path of Exile
Developers from Grinding Gear Games announced earlier this season that the new patch 3.13 was ready to launch December 11. But the Cyberpunk 2077 delay came and ruined all the plans.
CEO Chris Wilson announced publicly that the next expansions will be post poned until January 2021. He stated that “we do not want to put our players in a position of having to choose between these two games”. Obviously this decision couldn’t come easy. Nevertheless it is for the best when it comes to aiding for your game and player base.
As a Path of Exile player myself, I think this delay came in handy. Time is short and hard to manage when you are hyped for two things at once. Unfortunately, the die hard fans of Path of Exile are suffering tremendously because they are playing the same content an additional month.
Rockfish Games – Everspace 2
Everspace 2 was supposed to launch sometime mid December. When the Cyberpunk news broke, Rockfish Games discussed with the marketing and PR department about postponing the game. The obvious choice was to do it since a big number of their player base was also interested in Cyberpunk.
To make up for delaying the game, Everspace 2 developers decided to hand out pre-release keys with a 10 hour closed beta access for eligible Kickstarter supporters.
A new date hasn’t yet been set, but we know that itwill be sometime in January 2021.
Piranha Games – Mechwarrior 5
Mechwarrior 5 was due to get its new DLC, called Heroes of the Inner Sphere, in early December. In fact, they are now at the second post-pone of the game. They were supposed to release the expansion earlier this year, but due to the Covid-19 it was postponed until December. All dreams were shattered when CD Projekt Red released the news of launching Cyberpunk 2077 in December.
Piranha Games announced the delay on their website stating that “Any developer wants their titles to get as much attention as possible, and obviously sharing a release date with Cyberpunk was less than optimal.”.
The silver lining for Piranha Games is that now they can use this time to develop and release the game’s Xbox version at the same time as the PC launch.
Even though Cyberpunk 2077 delays multiple games and these news are sad for some of us, we should see the bright side. Once these games launch we will be knee deep in Cyberpunk and probably have the time to invest in other fun and rewarding games.
